South Africa: 8 people killed, several injured in gas tanker explosion in Boksburg
(South Africa) Eight people have been killed and multiple feared injured after a gas tanker caught fire in Boxburg City. Emergency services say six firefighters have also been injured in the explosion and are being treated at the nearby hospital. The EMS said that a gas tanker allegedly got stuck under a bridge and caught fire. The tanker is believed to have exploded as the firefighters were busy extinguishing the flames. Videos emerging from the scene show the moment of explosion as well as people with burn injuries running away from the site.
An EMS spokesperson further says that the subway bridge has been completely destroyed.
Two nearby houses also caught fire, and a rooftop for Alfie Hospitals Casualty Department partially collapsed after the explosion.
